  1. Miss Mocha
    Miss Mocha is the Writerists House mascot. Her primary duties in the office are to make the team smile with her adorableness, laugh at her chatter, and make sure they keep their work areas neat so there is nothing for her to chew on.
  2. Tammie Phillips - Founder, Senior Acquisitions Editor
    Tammie is the founder and managing member of Writerists House, LLC. A former independent author of nearly 10 years, she realized that there needed to be some middle ground between traditional publishing and self-publishing.
  3. Independent Staff Writer
    This is an independent contractor position, not full-time employment. The contractor will be responsible for producing, unique short stories for inclusion in anthologies on an on-demand basis.   4. Crystal Turner - Independent Copy Editor/Proofreader
    Crystal M. R. Turner is an award-winning journalist with more than a decade of experience in the news industry. She has worked as a copy editor and designer for major American newspapers and magazines, including the Pittsburgh (Pa.) Tribune-Review and Ms. magazine, and has volunteered as a proofreader for college students and specialty publications. She holds a master's degree in journalism from Syracuse University.
  5. Genovia Grant - Independent Staff Writer
    With over 10 years of writing and editing experience, Genov(i)a Grant has always known that there is more to life than just an ordinary journey. She knew that many adventures awaited her, and had to put them down on paper. For her, words, thoughts, and emotions are better expressed on paper. While she writes to entertain, she strives to make her audience feel what she feels daily. To her, writing isn't just a privilege, it's a way of life - out of reality and into a world she understands. "For me, writing something down was the only road out." - Anne Tyler.
  6. Alan Barkley - Independent Staff Writer
    Alan holds an MFA from NSCAD University in Nova Scotia, Canada. With an extensive career as a visual artist and art college administrator, Alan has more recently focused on his dramatic writing with plays performed in California, Toronto and Cambridge, England. He has also had numerous film festival screenings (Austin, DC, Seattle) of films produced from his screenplays and won first place for his writing at the Vail Film Festival CO., and the Woods Hole Film Festival, MA. He received a writing fellowship through Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

  8. Molly Ritvo - Independent Staff Writer
    Molly Ritvo is a writer living in Burlington, VT. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and a B.A from Tufts University. Molly's writing career began when she was selected as the class poet in the 1st grade. Since then, she has been busy writing short stories, creative non-fiction and working on a novel. Molly has published her work on Tiny Buddha, Elephant Journal, YOGANONAMOUS, InterfaithFamily.com, & Upstreet Literary Magazine. Molly is thrilled to join the Writerists House team.
  9. Jeff Macharyas - Independent Staff Writer
    Jeff Macharyas has worked in publishing and advertising for many years. He has been the editorial director for Quick Printing, Southern Graphics, Magazine Issues, Artes Gráficas and several other magazines and wrote for the web for Today's Campus magazine. Macharyas contributes to Opensource.com, writing about open source software and was named a 2017 Emerging Contributor. Macharyas holds a BS in Communications from Florida State University, a miniMBA in Social Media Marketing from Rutgers University and a MS in Cybersecurity and Computer Forensics from Utica College. He writes about design, software and other topics on his website, macharyas.com.
  10. Jeff Macharays - Independent Cover Designer
    Jeff Macharyas has worked in publishing and advertising for many years. He has been the art director for the USO's OnPatrol, The American Spectator, Today's Campus, Quick Printing, and many others. He is an expert in Adobe design software as well as open source graphic design tools and is Google-certified (GAIQ). Macharyas holds a BS in Communications from Florida State University, a miniMBA in Social Media Marketing from Rutgers University and an MS in Cybersecurity and Computer Forensics from Utica College, where his Graduate thesis was The Malicious and Forensic Uses of Adobe Software, which he self-published as a paperback book.
  11. Leanie Louw - Independent Staff Writer
    Dr. Leanie Louw is a renowned oenologist turned writer. She has been freelancing as a writer since 2014 and after an eye-opening sabbatical had quit her corporate job to become a full-time writer. Leanie is now using her technical and business knowledge to create sharp web content for her freelance clients while working on her novel and blogs on the side. She's happiest on a train, traveling through unknown territory with a good book.

  13. J. Douglass Benson - Independent Staff Writer
    J. Douglass Benson has been into literature and writing since his late teens. A graduate of Saint Lawrence University with a B.A. in English, he went on to be a M.F.A. candidate in creative writing at Brooklyn College. While working at Barnes & Noble as first a bookseller, then later a supervisor, he became a published poet in Dark Penguin, an independent avant-garde literary journal. J. has been a tutor, a “doctor” of sorts in fixing college papers, independent film scripts, novels by beginning authors, short stories by his fellow writers, and editing and proofreading a memoir. Currently working on a novel, he is delighted to a part of Writerists House.
  14. Christina Knott - Independent Copy Editor/Proofreader
    Christina Knott is copy editor for Writerists House, LLC. Christina has 10 years experience in news media as a reporter, copy editor and designer. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and an Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences. A native of Missouri, she met her husband, a native of Queens, while working as an English teacher in South Korea. They were married while living and working in south Texas and currently live with their family in upstate New York.

    Christina Knott is a book cover designer for Writerists House, LLC. Christina 10 years experience in news media as a writer, editor and designer. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and an Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences. A native of Missouri, she met her husband, a native of Queens, while working as an English teacher in South Korea. They were married while living and working in south Texas and currently live with their family in upstate New York.
